Description

A compact take on our much larger Splitting Maul, this hatchet features the same ingenious flared-head design, which helps to ensure a quick, clean split. At 2.7 lbs., the head is heavy enough to generate the momentum to split even stubborn, gnarly chunks of wood. A metal plate just below the head protects the handle from extra wear and tear and extends the life of the tool, while two ring wedges make sure the head stays securely atop the handle. Designed for single or two-handed use, this compact splitter is essential for camping trips but can easily serve as your family’s primary firewood tool. Overall tool length is 19 ¼”, while the head measures 6 ¼” by 2 ¼” W. The shorter handle makes this an easy Maul to use for long periods of time, regardless of your arm strength. Comes sharp and ready to use, complete with a heavy-duty leather sheath to protect the splitting edge. The head is forged in Germany, while the American hickory handle proudly features the Garrett Wade logo.

The tool name says it all!

"Short and Mighty? You better believe it! This tool is exactly what I have wished to find for years. I couldn’t be happier with the build, having a shorter handle and smaller head than larger splitting mauls, which are too much for me to handle now that I’m almost 60 (and a woman), and have less muscle. Can’t wait to break down some kindling with it. Besides, it’s just beautiful to look at! LOL!"

Outstanding maul

"The name says it all - Short & Mighty. As an older person, I appreciate the compact size and heft. Also a good tool for introducing young people to the joys of splitting wood. Excellent craftsmanship."
