European Made Carving Hatchet - 21 oz

When there is a lot of wood to come off, a heavier head does more of the work for you. This hatchet carries a 21 oz head, half again the weight of our lighter model, for roughing out spoon and bowl blanks and the stronger strikes of green woodworking. It is European throughout. Stubai forges the head in Austria from European carbon steel, and the maker grinds it at 30°, which they consider the best angle for this steel, then tests everyone by slicing paper before it ships. The handle is European ash, shaped for close carving and oiled with linseed so it holds firm in your hand. The extra weight is the trade: over a long afternoon of fine carving, the 14 oz hatchet will be kinder to your arm. Arrives exceptionally sharp, with a welted leather sheath that protects the edge in storage and transport. The maker considers the sheath part of the tool and does not sell it separately. Being carbon steel, the head should be dried after use and given an occasional wipe of oil. Measures 14" L x 4" W x 1" H.
